January 5: The Times Junior Club holds a talent show at the Soldiers Home described as: “Probably the greatest galaxy of juvenile and theatrical entertainment talent ever gathered in Southern California.” Entertainment includes acrobats, a contortionist and dancers.
April 20: The ninth fire at the Soldiers Home is attributed to a “fire bug.” Estimates of the arsonist’s damages to the home to date are $200,000 and include many unused buildings.
Named after Civil War major and former President of the Board of the National Homes for Disabled Veterans, the James Wadsworth Hospital opens at the Soldiers’ Home.
