May 27: Hazel Learned, the self titled poppy production manager for the West Los Angeles Veterans center, oversees the veterans making poppies for this year’s Poppy Days. The veterans receive 2 cents for each poppy they make. The veterans make over 348,000 poppies and earn approximately $10,400.
September 2: The Los Angeles Times reports the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration is switching from a “Soldiers Home” model where veterans reside at the VA until the end of their lives, to one where “rehabilitation” is encouraged and veterans are put back into "society."
