In our "fast food nation," no longer are palatial dining rooms the showpieces of our homes. Ethel’s stressful life is based on convenience, not on quality or pleasure and her furniture states as much. While the furniture appears spindly and weak, both the preservative laden food she consumes and the plastic chairs and table will exist beyond Ethel's mortal life, undoubtedly in a landfill or floating in the Pacific Ocean.
